Richard Wagner was a German composer born on May 22, 1813, in Leipzig, Germany. He is renowned for his influential operas, particularly those that form the cycle known as the "Ring" and works such as "The Flying Dutchman." Wagner's operas are notable for their complex textures, rich harmonies, and elaborate use of leitmotifs.

Several of his major operas premiered in the mid to late 19th century, including "Der Fliegende Holländer" in Dresden (1843), "Tannhäuser" (1845), and "Lohengrin" in Weimar (1850). Later, his works "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" (1868), "Das Rheingold" (1869), and "Die Walküre" (1870) premiered in Munich. The final operas of his Ring cycle, "Siegfried" and "Götterdämmerung," debuted in Bayreuth in 1876. His last completed opera, "Parsifal," premiered in 1882.

Wagner's innovations had a profound impact on the development of Western classical music, particularly opera, and he remains a central figure in 19th-century music history.
